Professor

Timothy W. Burns is Professor of Political Science and Graduate Program Director at Baylor University, and the 2022-23 John and Daria Barry Visiting Research Scholar at Princeton University. He is also editor in chief of Interpretation: A Journal of Political Philosophy, and co-editor of Palgrave MacMillan’s “Recovering Political Philosophy” series. His research interests are in the history of political philosophy, classical and modern political thought, politics and literature, politics and religion, Shakespeare’s political thought, and the thought of Leo Strauss.

His articles have appeared in the American Political Science Review, The Journal of Politics, Polis, The Review of Metaphysics, First Things, and other leading journals. Prof. Burns’ most recent books include Shakespeare’s Political Wisdom; The Key Texts of Political Philosophy (with Thomas L. Pangle); The Future of Liberal Education (co-edited with Peter A. Lawler); and Brill’s Companion to Leo Strauss’ Writings on Classical Political Thought, and most recently, Leo Strauss on Democracy, Technology, and Liberal Education.
