Israel's Place in the American Order
Course Description
Recent trends have made many Americans doubt the contributions of the Jewish faith, people, and homeland to liberal democracy, as well as the importance of a strong American Israeli alliance for our national security. This program asks whether support for Israel is essential for our national security or liberal democracy more broadly. Seminars take up the Hebrew Bible, American history, and IR theory. Finally, a review of the rational for Operation Epic Fury precedes an exercise simulating further crisis in the Middle East.
Simulation
Through a series of seminars led by Rabbanit Kate Rozansky and others, a keynote dinner with CBS News National Security Correspondent Aaron MacLean, and a foreign policy simulation led by Hudson Institute Fellow Zineb Riboua, candidates will explore Israel's place in the modern world order. Seminar topics include: Jews Without “Our Own Land,” America and the Jewish People, and Foreign Policy in the Middle East.
Capstone Project
To earn their certificate, candidates showcase their newly gained policy insights by completing a capstone project: either an op-ed or policy memo. Projects are assessed for their strategic soundness, original analysis, and grasp of the policy area.
Eligibility
Our Policy Certificate Program is seeking an accomplished cohort of early career professionals who demonstrate capability and interest in American foreign and domestic policy issues. The selection committee will consider a candidate's subject matter expertise, creative thinking, writing ability, and professional background. Applicants should meet the following criteria:
